Role Overview
CoverSelf is hiring a Data Analyst Intern through its Saarthi talent development program in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
In this entry-level data role, you will gain hands-on training and real-world exposure to US healthcare datasets derived from public policy and regulatory bodies like the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)and the American Medical Association (AMA). You will collect, clean, structure, and load raw healthcare feeds into CoverSelf’s proprietary table formats using Excel, SQL, and Python, while learning the intricacies of US healthcare code sets and policy frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Data Processing & Pipeline Support

Data Ingestion: Download and extract public raw healthcare data feeds from government and industry portals (CMS, AMA, and public fee schedules).

ETL & Data Cleaning: Clean, sanitize, and format complex datasets using Microsoft Excel, progressively transitioning to SQL queries and Python scripts.

Table Formatting: Transform unstructured or semi-structured healthcare data into CoverSelf standard relational table formats.

Update Maintenance: Execute scheduled monthly, quarterly, and annual dataset refreshes across active data pipelines.
Code Set & Table Maintenance

Historical Tracking: Maintain Industry Tables, Custom Client Tables, and specialized medical Code Sets with effective date-banding and versioning.

Delta Analysis: Conduct version comparison on incoming regulatory files and compile delta (change summary) reports for internal teams.
Data Quality Assurance (QA) & Profiling

First-Level QA: Audit datasets to identify duplicates, missing fields, format inconsistencies, and overlapping date ranges.

Data Profiling: Assist in building data profiling summaries and report data mismatches clearly to senior data managers.
Domain Learning & Documentation

Healthcare Domain Mastery: Learn the core building blocks of US medical billing and claims validation, including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and modifier structures.

Standard Operating Procedures: Document data handling procedures, mapping rules, and execution steps for team knowledge sharing.
Candidate Qualifications & Profile
Required Skillset & Traits

Technical Aptitude: Comfort and proficiency with Microsoft Excel (formulas, lookup functions, filtering); familiarity with basic SQL concepts and basic Python scripting.

Analytical Mindset: High attention to detail, precision when working with large data tables, and strong logical reasoning skills.

Communication: Ability to articulate data anomalies, prepare delta summaries, and collaborate effectively within a fast-moving data engineering team.

Note: No previous medical coding experience or CPC certification is required. CoverSelf’s Data Management team provides structured training.
