About the Role: Lead Analytics Engineer (Finance)

Are you an expert data practitioner who loves translating complex accounting rules into elegant, deterministic data pipelines? Scopely is seeking a Lead Analytics Engineer, Finance to own and evolve the core data infrastructure supporting our global digital revenue workflows. This role is purpose-built for analytics professionals bringing 6 or more years of experience, bridging the gap between raw data engineering and critical business operations like monthly close, revenue reporting, and audit compliance.

As a Lead Analytics Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone of financial data integrity. Your daily focus will transcend baseline script writing; you will architect scalable SQL/Python logic to handle complex digital product mechanics—such as item-based revenue recognition, virtual currency holding periods, consumable vs. durable in-game items, and bundle allocations. Partnering closely with Game Analytics, Platform Engineering, and Revenue Accounting, you will ensure that billions of data points are processed into bulletproof, auditable financial systems.

Key Responsibilities & Financial Data Workflows

  • Workflow Ownership: Lead and optimise recurring finance analytics pipelines that power the monthly close process, digital revenue reporting, and strategic accounting analyses.

  • Revenue Recognition Modelling: Partner with Revenue Accounting to design data logic for advanced gaming monetisation mechanics:

    • Consumable vs. Durable Logic: Tracking when virtual assets are used up vs. when they provide ongoing value.

    • Bundle Allocations: Proportionately splitting revenue when real money purchases packages containing mixed virtual items.

    • Virtual Currency Lifecycles: Determining holding periods, velocity, and paid vs. earned in-game currency treatments.

  • Pipeline Monitoring & Triage: Maintain financial data pipelines, build automated exception handling, and systematically drive resolution when upstream game logs are missing, delayed, or inconsistent.

  • Data Controls & Audit Readiness: Design and document deterministic, auditable data reconciliations. Act as the primary technical point of contact for external and internal audit requests by preparing clean data evidence and explaining pipeline logic.

  • Automation & Scalability: Identify manual reporting bottlenecks in Excel or Google Sheets and replace them with reusable analytics tooling, Python automation scripts, and documented runbooks.

  • Cross-Functional Liaison: Translate complex technical findings, data risks, and implementation tradeoffs into clear, actionable business insights for non-technical Finance and executive stakeholders.

Candidate Prerequisites & Technical Skill Stack

Successful candidates must combine robust engineering practices with a keen eye for financial data controls and transaction-level accuracy.

Required Experience & Educational Baseline:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field.

  • Professional Tenure: 6+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or business operations with clear ownership over business-critical workflows.

  • Domain Exposure: Demonstrated background supporting finance, accounting, revenue reporting, monthly close, or audit-related data ecosystems.

Core Technical Stack Proficiencies:

  • Advanced Data Manipulation: Expert-level SQL skills for complex data transformation, paired with proficiency in Python (or similar scripting languages) for workflow automation.

  • Cloud Data Warehouses: Hands-on experience working within modern cloud data platforms, specifically BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or broader AWS/GCP data infrastructures.

  • Spreadsheet Mastery: Advanced data manipulation, auditing, and prototyping capabilities within Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

  • Systems Engineering Mindset: A strong foundational understanding of ledger reconciliations, internal data controls, data quality frameworks, and process documentation.

Preferred Domain Pluses & Bonus Points:

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in engineering data solutions within gaming, mobile applications, digital subscriptions, or high-volume e-commerce sectors.

  • Leadership Track: Experience mentoring junior analysts or informally leading cross-functional squads and engineering workstreams.

  • Audit & Controls Mastery: Direct experience designing operational compliance controls or supporting Big Four financial audit systems requests.
