Apply for the Application Engineer – Solution Proposal position at Siemens. Design technical bid proposals, architect power distribution grids, and manage RFQ cost modelling in Chennai/Bengaluru.
About the Company: Siemens
Siemens is a global technology powerhouse that seamlessly combines the physical and digital worlds across automation, digitalisation, smart grid infrastructure, and sustainable energy delivery systems. Driven by a commitment to pioneer technologies that transform the everyday, Siemens engineers multi-scale solutions that power entire cities, decarbonise major industrial complexes, and modernise critical electrical infrastructure worldwide.
The Sales & Business Development Infrastructure Division at Siemens acts as the primary technical bridge for large-scale energy projects. Based within strategic engineering centers in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru, Karnataka, this division is responsible for bidding on, designing, and pricing complex electrical grid systems, industrial power distribution infrastructures, and multi-megawatt energy networks. They turn complex customer specifications into highly optimised, safe, and cost-effective technical architectures.
About the Role: Application Engineer – Solution Proposal
Are you an electrical engineer who excels at interpreting customer requirements, designing single-line power diagrams, and drafting commercial cost models? Siemens is hiring a full-time, permanent Application Engineer – Solution Proposal to join its global Pre-Sales engineering group. This position bridges the gap between technical engineering and commercial execution, looking for professionals with 4 to 9 years of deep experience within an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), utility, or industrial manufacturing environment.
As an Application Engineer, you will serve as the primary technical architect during the critical project bid phase. Your daily responsibilities will focus on analyzing intricate customer bid specifications to construct complete power system proposals. You will map out technical bills of materials (BOM), create 2D spatial equipment layouts in AutoCAD, evaluate third-party vendor configurations, and assemble board-ready pricing frameworks. Working closely with core Procurement, Sales, and Project Management Office (PMO) squads, you will safeguard project profitability while engineering highly reliable power delivery proposals.
Key Responsibilities & Pre-Sales Engineering Workflows
-
Technical Specification Analysis: Review and dissect complex customer technical specifications, regulatory compliance mandates, and commercial project documentation.
-
Scope Definition & Equipment Mapping: Define the precise, preliminary scope of work for comprehensive electrical packages, including medium/low voltage Switchgear, modular E-houses, power transformers, battery storage systems, and industrial UPS units.
-
Engineering Asset Creation: Draft detailed Bills of Materials (BOM), 2D spatial equipment layout drawings, and Single Line Diagrams (SLD) utilizing AutoCAD and Visio.
-
Third-Party RFQ Management: Prepare structured Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages for external hardware suppliers, collaborating with Procurement teams to secure and evaluate competitive technical bids.
-
Cost Modelling & Tool Configuration: Build comprehensive project cost models using advanced Siemens product configurator and internal pricing applications, securing structural margin approvals from senior management.
-
Proposal Package Assembly: Author and assemble professional, customer-facing technical proposal packages detailing component compliance and value-engineered alternatives.
-
Technical Bid Handover: Collaborate actively with the PMO group upon winning projects to ensure a flawless, organised transfer of technical assumptions from the Bid Phase to the Project Execution team.
-
Market Trend Advocacy: Identify emerging grid modernisation trends and relay field insights back to central Marketing and Technology groups to help justify new product development initiatives.
Candidate Prerequisites & Key Technical Skills
Successful candidates must combine a strong foundation in electrical power systems with the cross-functional coordination skills required to navigate multi-million dollar corporate bid cycles.
