About the Role

Southwest Airlines is hiring a Business Data Analyst – Analytics & AI to support its Analytics & AI initiatives. The role focuses on transforming business requirements into actionable analytical solutions that improve reporting, operational performance, and business decision-making.

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, Product Owners, Data Engineers, and AI Engineers to develop dashboards, reports, datasets, KPIs, and analytical insights using SQL, Python, Tableau, and Alteryx.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, business processes, and analytical opportunities.
• Conduct analytical discovery and requirements-gathering sessions.
• Translate business needs into analytical solutions, user stories, reporting specifications, and datasets.
• Develop and enhance Tableau dashboards, reports, scorecards, and other business intelligence products.
• Build SQL-based analytical solutions and datasets to generate actionable business insights.
• Use Python for data analysis, reporting automation, and analytical solution development.
• Analyze datasets to identify trends, opportunities, and operational insights.
• Define and document business metrics, KPIs, calculations, and reporting standards.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Engineers, and AI Engineers to deliver analytics capabilities aligned with business objectives.
• Work with Data Engineers to ensure analytical requirements are incorporated into data models and curated datasets.
• Use Alteryx workflows for data preparation, reporting, and business process automation where appropriate.
• Support KPI implementation, reporting enhancements, and business intelligence initiatives.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance activities.
• Prepare presentations and reports to communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and iterative delivery activities.
• Maintain business documentation, reporting inventories, analytical specifications, and data dictionaries.
• Identify opportunities to improve business processes through analytics and automation.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Technical Skills

• Strong SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases.
• Tableau dashboard development and data visualization best practices.
• Intermediate knowledge of Alteryx workflows and data preparation.
• Intermediate Python skills for data analysis and automation.
• Understanding of analytical data structures, business intelligence, and self-service analytics.
• Knowledge of AI-enabled analytics and Generative Business Intelligence (GenBI) concepts.
• Experience developing dashboards, reports, KPI scorecards, and analytical datasets.
• Data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance.

Business and Analytical Skills

• Business requirements gathering and documentation.
• Stakeholder engagement, communication, and facilitation.
• Ability to translate business requirements into analytical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving and data interpretation skills.
• Ability to communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences.

Education Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields, or equivalent formal training:

• Computer Science
• Engineering
• Information Systems
• Business Analytics
• Data Science
• A related discipline

Experience Requirements

Candidates should have 3–5+ years of relevant professional experience in business analytics, data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence.

Relevant experience includes:

• Developing dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions.
• Using SQL, Tableau, Python, or similar analytics technologies.
• Working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements.
• Supporting KPI development and business intelligence initiatives.
• Performing data quality checks, validation, and reconciliation.
• Communicating analytical findings to business and technology teams.
• Working in Agile delivery environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to the finance domain.
• Experience working on analytics projects.
• Awareness of Generative AI (GenAI) and Generative Business Intelligence (GenBI).
• Familiarity with modern cloud analytics platforms.
