About the Role: Student Intern (Assurance)
EY Uganda is actively seeking a highly motivated, analytically minded Student Intern to join its elite Assurance division in Kampala. This full-time student internship is designed specifically for undergraduate students who want to bridge the gap between financial coursework and high-stakes corporate auditing.
As a Student Intern at EY, you will step beyond basic textbook ledger reviews and integrate directly into active audit engagements. Working alongside experienced Chartered Accountants and Audit Managers, your day-to-day focus will center on analyzing corporate financial statements, checking internal control systems, and organizing project-critical compliance documentation. This program serves as a rigorous technical training ground, helping you build analytical logic, learn how to run data-driven risk audits, and master corporate communication standards.
Key Responsibilities & Analytical Workflows

Financial Audit Assistance: Support senior audit professionals in executing financial statement audits, walkthroughs, and substantive testing procedures across diverse client industries.

Data Analysis & Validation: Review, clean, and verify financial records, ledgers, and transactions to ensure complete mathematical accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.

Internal Controls Auditing: Assist in analyzing client accounting systems to identify potential operational gaps, evaluate financial control structures, and recommend workflow improvements.

Audit Documentation & Planning: Participate in the planning phases of audits, helping map client risks, draft audit files, and compile working papers in accordance with EY’s global methodologies.

Administrative Project Support: Manage key administrative tasks for the audit team, including indexing audit workbooks, managing document management systems, and scheduling critical stakeholder meetings.

Regulatory Compliance Support: Help verify compliance with local Ugandan regulatory requirements and international accounting standards through meticulous record checks and document tracking.

Educational Profile & Enrollment Window:

Academic Status: Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program (preferably with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or an equivalent quantitative track).

Professional Ambitions: A strong interest in pursuing professional accounting certifications (e.g., CPA Uganda, ACCA) is highly encouraged.

Spreadsheet & Document Mastery: Foundational proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (highly prioritising MS Excel logic, along with Word and PowerPoint skills).
