About the Role: Tax Intern

EY Uganda is actively recruiting ambitious, highly analytical Fresh Graduates for its Tax Internship Program in Kampala. This full-time program is specifically designed for recent university graduates looking to jumpstart a technical career at the intersection of corporate finance, revenue law, and quantitative data analytics.

As a Tax Intern at EY, you will move beyond simple document collation and step into the fast-evolving landscape of modern regulatory consulting. Working alongside seasoned Tax Consultants and Managers, your daily operational focus will center on executing technical research, structuring calculations, and tracking tax compliance pipelines. This position gives you a hands-on workspace to analyze transactional data, identify corporate financial risks, and prepare premium, client-ready advisory documentation that directly meets the strict quality thresholds of EY’s global network.

Key Responsibilities & Analytical Workflows

  • Technical Compliance Contributions: Assist project teams in executing corporate tax returns, computing regulatory liabilities, and preparing filings aligned with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) framework.

  • Tax Research & Interpretation: Conduct deep-dive analyses into regional statutory tax laws, legal precedents, and cross-border regulatory changes to support ongoing client corporate restructurings.

  • Data Wrangling & Analytics: Ingest, structure, and audit large client transactional datasets using digital tools to detect compliance deviations, process exceptions, and tax-saving opportunities.

  • Risk Escalation & Monitoring: Actively track, identify, and map structural risks within active client accounts, proactively escalating financial operational issues to next-level senior reviewers.

  • Client Deliverable Engineering: Draft high-quality compliance documentation, tax advisory memos, and cross-departmental correspondence in strict accordance with internal accuracy benchmarks.

  • Internal Pipeline Operations: Support internal corporate development projects, maintain engagement tracking tools, and help identify new business opportunities during existing client reviews.

Candidate Prerequisites & Required Skill Stack

Educational Profile & Performance Mandates:

  • Academic Matrix: Must be a Fresh Graduate holding a First-Class or Upper Second-Class Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • Target Disciplines: Degrees in Accounting, Finance, Business-related fields, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Law, or Computer Science.

  • Preferred Qualification (The Plus Stack): A Post Graduate Diploma in Tax (PGDT) or enrollment in professional accounting bodies (e.g., ACCA, CPA Uganda) is an excellent advantage.

Required Core Competencies:

  • Analytical & Advanced Computer Capabilities: Exceptional quantitative reasoning, strong data manipulation skills, and high proficiency managing digital environments.

  • Office Software Suite: Solid corporate mastery of Microsoft Excel (formulas, data sorting, modeling logic), Word, and PowerPoint presentation tools.
