About the Role: Fraud Strategic Analytics Associate

Are you a highly collaborative data scientist who wants to use predictive science to actively defend consumers from financial crime? The Chase UK Fraud Strategy and Analytics group is looking for a Data Scientist – Fraud Strategic Analytics Associate to join its engineering hub at 1 Cabot Square in London.

This role places you directly in the 1st Line of Defense, giving you end-to-end ownership over the fraud detection strategies and control frameworks that safeguard all products and digital channels. Operating in an agile, squad-based environment, you won’t just build isolated mathematical models; you will design, architect, and deploy production-grade analytics inside cloud-native microservices applications. Key Responsibilities & Analytics Workflows

  • Architect Fraud Mitigation Rules: Design, test, and implement automated fraud detection rules and predictive strategies to catch bad actors across high-volume transaction lines.

  • Execute Strategic Analytics: Conduct advanced data exploration across fraud products, bank operations, and financial crime sectors to protect the financial assets of both the bank and its customers.

  • Optimise Operational Impact: Translate complex analytical findings into functional operational workflows, improving the decision-making speed and accuracy of live fraud investigation teams.

  • Coordinate with 2nd Line Risk: Partner closely with 2nd line fraud risk teams to audit, refine, and validate that active models and rulesets remain hyper-effective against evolving threats.

  • Enforce Compliance & Controls: Build data-driven confirmation methodologies to ensure all active fraud strategies comply perfectly with strict audit frameworks and external banking regulations.

  • Cross-Functional Advocacy: Share modelling best practices across the global J.P. Morgan tech community and present clear analytical findings to management and cross-functional partners.

Candidate Prerequisites & Technical Capabilities

To excel in this role, you must comfortably combine deep technical execution across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) with practical domain knowledge of financial crimes.

Required Technical & Professional Expertise:

  • Academic Foundation: A completed Master’s degree in a highly numeric or STEM-related discipline (such as Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or an equivalent field).

  • Domain Competency: Practical knowledge of core fraud mechanisms, detection processes, and retail banking products.

  • Leadership Foundation: Prior foundational experience in team development, mentoring, or technical project management.

  • Communication Skills: Superior written, verbal, and presentation capabilities, with a proven track record of communicating complex quantitative theories concisely to all management levels.

Preferred Technical Assets (Bonus Points):

  • Direct experience developing or deploying code within a cloud-native microservices architecture.

  • Familiarity navigating fast-moving fintech environments or agile product squads.

  • Strong commercial awareness matched with an analytical, solution-oriented approach to complex risk hurdles.
