Data Analyst Financial Crime Risk Analysis at HSBC

Apply for the Data Analyst (FC Risk Analysis and Discovery) position at HSBC in Dubai. Open exclusively to UAE Nationals. Leverage data analytics, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and network analysis to mitigate regional AML, fraud, and sanctions risks.

About the Company: HSBC

HSBC is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations, serving more than 40 million customers across 58 countries and territories. Listed on the London, New York, Hong Kong, and Bermuda stock exchanges, HSBC connects individual savers, commercial enterprises, institutional investors, and sovereign governments to global economic opportunities.

The global Financial Crime Function at HSBC is a specialised risk management division tasked with protecting the bank’s integrity, infrastructure, and clients from illicit financial networks. Operating as a critical shield, this department sets stringent compliance standards across Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions compliance, Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), Fraud detection, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) frameworks. The Financial Crime Risk Analysis and Discovery team specifically acts as an intelligence unit for the MENAT (Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye) markets, translating raw investigative files and geopolitical indicators into proactive tactical defences.

About the Role: Data Analyst (Financial Crime Risk)

Are you a proactive, analytically driven professional who wants to apply data science and intelligence analysis to combat global financial crime? HSBC is hiring a full-time, permanent Data Analyst, FC Risk Analysis and Discovery to join its elite compliance division in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

⚠️ Mandatory Prerequisite: In compliance with local regulatory frameworks and nationalisation mandates, this position is strictly open to UAE Nationals only.

In this strategic role, you will step out of standard corporate dashboarding to function as an intelligence analyst. You will bridge the gap between qualitative qualitative data (geopolitical events, regulatory notices, text-heavy horizon scanning) and quantitative datasets (transaction logs, risk indicators, entity networks). Your primary focus is to discover emerging crime typologies, spot hidden risk patterns across the MENAT banking landscape, and provide actionable assessments that allow the bank to neutralize threats before they impact the network.

Key Responsibilities & Financial Crime Analytics Workflows

  • Typology Research & Insight Generation: Produce high-quality research reports detailing emerging regional financial crime trends, leveraging HSBC’s centralized Typology Library tool to map risks.

  • Quantitative Dataset Mining: Analyze large, varied, and unstructured transaction and compliance datasets to identify statistical patterns, anomalies, and key risk indicators (KRIs).

  • Geopolitical Horizon Scanning: Perform continuous research across open-source intelligence (OSINT) and closed-source records to track regulatory changes, sanctions listings, and external legal developments.

  • Critical Information Synthesis: Combine complex, fragmented risk data from multiple internal banking environments and external regulatory bodies into clear, executive-ready advisory briefings.

  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Convert raw mathematical insights and network mappings into clear, scannable data visualization dashboards that support rapid mitigation decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with business line managers, legal compliance officers, and global financial crime units to transition detected risks into active mitigation protocols.

Candidate Prerequisites & Key Technical Skills

Successful candidates must balance a natural curiosity for current affairs and financial compliance with strong analytical problem-solving skills.

Required Experience & Educational Baseline:

  • National Status: Must be a UAE National (with valid national registration).

  • Academic Credentials: A verified Bachelor’s degree (Graduation Degree) is mandatory.

    • Note: If your university certificate was issued outside the UAE, valid attestations and equivalency documentation (Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications Issued Outside The UAE) are strictly required.

  • Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of financial crime risk concepts, including standard banking compliance frameworks, money laundering patterns, sanctions evasion methods, and fraud vectors within the MENAT sector.

  • Language Fluency: Professional verbal and written mastery of English is mandatory. Fluency in additional regional languages is a clear differentiator.

Core Technical Stack & Analytical Competencies:

  • Data Analytics Capability: Practical proficiency in handling complex, diverse datasets, scrubbing raw fields, and drawing structural insights using data manipulation methodologies.

  • Data Visualization: Experience creating impactful charts, graphs, and visual mapping vectors to convey risk structures simply.

  • Network Analysis (Preferred Plus): Foundational experience or conceptual understanding of link/network analysis, entity mapping, or graph-adjacent data profiling to track connected illicit accounts.

  • Professional Certifications (Nice to Have): Active ACAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), ICA diplomas, or related financial crime credentials are highly desirable.
