Electrical Engineer (AI Simulation & Design) | Avance Consulting

This is a unique, high-level Contract role that sits at the intersection of Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Unlike traditional design roles where you build hardware, here you are the “Master Architect” of engineering challenges. Your goal is to design complex, physics-based problems that push the boundaries of how AI models “think” and “iterate” through electrical design trade-offs.

You will be crafting the benchmarks that evaluate if an AI can truly understand component sizing, circuit topology, and physical constraints rather than just predicting text.

🟢 Role Overview & Impact

In this role, you are building the “training ground” for the next generation of AI Engineers.

  • Problem Synthesis: Create realistic design prompts (e.g., “Design a high-efficiency DC-DC converter with specific ripple, thermal, and size constraints”) where the AI must navigate genuine engineering trade-offs.

  • Simulation Integration: Develop and script environments using open-source simulation tools (such as SPICE-based tools, OpenDSS, or PyPSA) where the AI’s output can be validated against physics.

  • Iterative Design Loops: Craft tasks that require the AI to interpret simulation failures and iterate on the design—mimicking the real-world engineering lifecycle.

  • Physical Realism: Ensure every problem has “physical integrity,” meaning the boundary conditions, units, and convergence criteria are 100% accurate.

📊 Compensation & Contract Details (2026)

Based on 2026 market benchmarks for specialised US-based Remote Engineering Contracts:

Metric Details
Experience Level : Master’s or PhD + 3 years of hands-on design.
Estimated Hourly Rate $85 – $150 per hour (Highly dependent on specialised domain expertise like RF, Power, or VLSI).
Work Model Remote (USA) – Contract.
Time Commitment : 20 – 40 hours per week (Must have 4 hours overlap with PST).
Engagement Duration : Typically 6–12 months with potential for extension in AI training cycles.

🎯 Required Technical Arsenal

  • Design Pedigree: You must have a track record of producing validated designs—meaning you’ve seen products go from specs to working hardware.

  • Scripting Proficiency: Advanced Python is mandatory. You’ll need to write scripts to automate simulators, parse results, and build evaluation harnesses.

  • Simulation Expertise: Experience with tools like LTspice, Ngspice, KiCad, or GHDL.

  • Academic Rigour: A deep understanding of boundary conditions, convergence issues in numerical simulations, and dimensional analysis.
