Job Title: Data Analyst & Visualization Specialist with Power BI

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Data Analyst with strong database expertise and visualization capabilities to join our team. This role combines hands-on data extraction and analysis with the ability to transform complex datasets into actionable business insights through compelling visualizations.

Core Responsibilities

You will work directly with our production databases to extract, analyze, and visualize operational data that drives business decisions. This includes independently navigating complex database schemas, writing efficient queries, and building automated reporting dashboards that keep stakeholders informed in real-time.

Required Skills & Experience:

Database Analysis

• Proficiency in PostgreSQL and MySQL, including advanced query writing, joins, subqueries, window functions, and query optimization
• Demonstrated ability to explore and reverse-engineer undocumented or poorly documented database schemas
• Experience working with large datasets and understanding of indexing, performance tuning, and efficient data extraction strategies
• Comfort working with normalized relational data structures and translating business questions into appropriate SQL queries

Analytical Thinking

• Ability to move beyond simple data pulls to deliver critical insights and recommendations
• Experience identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities within operational data
• Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward proactive analysis rather than reactive reporting

Data Visualization

• Proficiency in Power BI, including DAX expressions, data modeling, and report design
• Ability to design dashboards that communicate complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience building visualizations that tell a story and highlight actionable takeaways

Integration & Automation

• Hands-on experience setting up and maintaining live database connections in Power BI (DirectQuery and Import modes)
• Understanding of refresh schedules, incremental refresh strategies, and gateway configuration for consistent automated updates
• Ability to design sustainable data pipelines that minimize manual intervention while ensuring data accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in transportation, logistics, or operations-heavy environments
• Familiarity with time-series analysis and geographic/route-based data
• Background working with high-volume transactional data
